NCL CDOP

NCL Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP) functions through partnership of the NCL ICB and Local Authorities.  A single North Central London Child Death Review process has been agreed across Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington.

This is in line with the new Child Death Review Statutory and Operational Guidance published in October 2018 by the Department of Health and Social Care and the Department for Education.

The new guidance emphasises the need for collaboration and contribution from all sectors involved in a child death during the Child Death Review Process.

Oversight for CDR processes has moved from the Department of Education to the  Department for Health and Social Care, in recognition of the numbers of child deaths being due to medical factors as opposed to other factors.

The new guidance aims to: Improve the experience of bereaved families.

Ensure that information from the child death review process is systematically captured in every case to enable learning and to prevent future deaths.

The population we serve

NCL has a diverse population, with people from a variety of ethnic groups  and differing socioeconomic backgrounds. As a result, our population are exposed  to a range of risks and require different needs.

Of the under 18s residing in NCL 30% of the children grow up in child poverty and 6% live in households where no one works.

Three of our boroughs have the highest rates of child mental health admissions in London.

There are high rates of early death amongst those with mental health conditions and the rate of inpatient admissions amongst this population is above the national average.
